Artist: The Smiths
Track: William, It Was Really Nothing

Lyrics
The rain falls hard on a humdrum town
This town has dragged you down

And everybody's got to live their life
And God knows I've got to live mine
God knows I've got to live mine

William, it was really nothing
William, it was really nothing
It was your life

How can you stay with a fat girl who'll say:
"Would you like to marry me
And if you like you can buy the ring"
She doesn't care about anything

"Would you like to marry me
And if you like you can buy the ring"
I don't dream about anyone
Except myself

William, it was really nothing

William, William

Millions Meanings & Lyrics Discussion
muss discusses the meanings of Millions lyrics: Gerard always uses a lot of escapism in his lyrics, imagery of running away with a loved one. However, you can't just say that this is one of his love songs as the lyrics tend to contradict themselves. There's a subtle use of violence, but it sounds too playful to be a breakup song. But there is a sense of retribution here as the line in the first half that says 'my mouth is sore' changes near the end of the song to 'I think you're sore'. Then there's the whole idea of having a million reasons, a million reasons for what? To love someone, to hate someone, to split a band up? I think a bit of context is needed to really be able to analyse what the song's about, I'm too lazy. BUT, the line 'William it was really me, it was really you' is a reference to The Smiths's song 'William it was Really Nothing', which is believed to be a song about someone Morrissey slept with? The Smiths reference is very discrete, so possibly not a huge part of the song. Maybe the song h
